题目(英文) The nature of translation
题目(中文) 翻译的本质
Abstract
The translation community has been calling for the establishment of translation science or translatology. The academic community is far from unanimous on such an important issue of the discipline. By reviewing the development of translation essentialism in China, this paper holds that translation is not the unity of science and art. Translation research may be regarded as a science, but translation activity is a language skill. This paper further discusses the nature of translation, and through the introduction of contemporary western translation theories since the 1980s, illustrates the trend of researchers to study translation more and more with interdisciplinary methods, that is, to study translation with the theories of other disciplines. But as some scholars have pointed out, this method has both advantages and disadvantages.
