Abstract
Color vocabulary is a very important and indispensable part of the language system of every nationality in the world. It is widely used in English and Chinese. The color word not only reflects the unique color awareness of this nation, but also reflects the culture of this nation. Because of the different cultural traditions, historical backgrounds, and aesthetic differences of different ethnic groups, the cultural connotations presented will be different. This article will give an example of five pairs of color words red and red, white and white, black and black, yellow and yellow, green and green, to explain various cultural expressions and extended usage of color words, and to discuss the cultural differences between English and Chinese color words. It also introduces several common translation methods and issues that should be noted during the translation process. It is intended to strengthen the understanding of the cultures of different ethnic groups, and promote and increase the cultural communication, exchange and integration among the people of all ethnic groups.
