Abstract: The popularity of English learning brings about a great change in Children’s English learning nowadays. More and more preschool children begin to learn English. It is closely related to the theory of second language acquisition (SLA) which is accepted widely. From the perspective of SLA, this study aims to explore the most suitable ways for children’s English learning.The paper starts with an description of the learning characteristics of children and the current English teaching and learning practices for children. This study shows the advantages of children: their high sensitivity of language and the ability to imitate and tells the differences between learning and acquiring. Then, the author puts forward how to take the advantages and combine theory with practice in order to make children acquire naturally. Third, the author tries to stress the importance of the largely input during the critical period as well as how to input. In the end, the author emphasizes that the cultivation of children’s English learning ability should be combined with examination-oriented education, so that children can not only listen, speak, read and write, but also can get high marks at school in the future.
