Abstract
Etiquette, is the witness of the history of human civilization for thousands of years, is the symbol of a country or a nation gradually get rid of ignorance and backwardness, towards civilization. Table manners, on the other hand, are common sense of etiquette at the table when eating. Table manners occupy a very important position in people's whole lives, at the table it can be observed whether a person has self-restraint at the table, and many details can be observed when having a meal.
Through the comparison of Chinese and British dining etiquette, this paper finds that the main reason for the difference in table manners is collectivism in China, while individualism in Britain. In addition, we can also find more cultural contrasts, such as male superiority female superiority VS ladies first, left superiority VS right superiority etc.
This study may hopefully make some contribution in the difference between Table Manners between Chinese and English, learns the essence of the culture of the two countries, learns to use.
