Abstract
Animal idioms is an important part of idioms,it has a special connotation. Through the explanation of the social foundation, structural characteristics and connotation expression of animal idioms in Eastern and Western cultures, we can have a preliminary understanding of animal idioms. At the same time, people use the characteristics of animals, such as diligence, courage, power and hypocrisy and so on, to compare human qualities, we find that animal idioms have some similarities in the connotation of English and Chinese languages, but their connotations are not completely the same due to the differences in language and cultural environment. Therefore, the differences between Chinese and English animal idioms are summarized, to further understand the influence of different language and cultural environments, including different political, economic, religious beliefs, living environment, thinking habits, etc., the most typical cultural environment is political history, the economic life, social customs, religion ancient books and fable. By comparing the four different language environments and feeling the different national cultural characteristics of English and Chinese animal idioms, learner can deepen the understanding of the differences in the connotations of English and Chinese animal idioms and improve learners' intercultural communication ability.
