Abstract
Diet is the basis of life, and China and the West are no exception. There is an old Chinese saying that food is most important to people. From the past to the present, Chinese food culture has been in the leading position in the world, and western food culture also has its typical characteristics. With the arrival of the 21st century, cross-cultural communication is becoming more and more frequent, among which diet culture is the most common. Because of the natural environment, customs and other actors differences. China and the West have different food cultures. Therefore, when Chinese and Westerners communicate with each other, there are always some misunderstandings between them. This paper will analyze the differences of Chinese and Western food culture from the aspects of diet concept, raw materials, cooking methods and the order of dishes, so as to enrich the cultural exchanges between China and the West.
