Abstract
Under different cultural backgrounds, the competence of intercultural communication is becoming more and more important in the current society. How to avoid cultural conflicts and achieve effective intercultural communication has become an important topic of contemporary cultural research. The cultural differences between China and the West have the most obvious influence on intercultural communication. We have the differences in thinking, sense of worth, personal privacy and code of conduct. These cultural differences affect the normal communication and social activity between China and the West. The core of Chinese culture is collectivism, in the collective subjectivity everyone does what they should do and seeks a suitable position in the main part. The core of western culture is democracy and freedom. There are many problems in the process of cultural exchange between China and the West. This essay is going to introduce cultural differences and intercultural communication, to improve intercultural communication skills by understanding the impact of cultural differences between China and the West. Cultural integration is an effective way to solve intercultural problem, it is a great significance for us to understand the influence of Chinese and Western cultural differences on intercultural communication.
