Abstract

Pride and Prejudice is one of Austin’s great works. The four marriages in the novel completely summarize people’s attitude towards the love and marriage at 18th century’s society situation, love and marriage is closely associated with property and society, however, love and marriage cannot only be decided by the property and social status. An ideal marriage should be based on mutual affection and respect. Love is the root of a happy marriage. She rejects the marriage based on wealth and stresses the element of emotion in a marriage.
