Effect of English Film Appreciation on Improving the Intercultural Communication Competence of the English Language Learners
Abstract: This thesis is mainly about the effect of original English film appreciating on the development of the learner’s intercultural communication competence. The thesis begins with the introduction of the background and significance of the study. Then it gives an overview of the condition of the language and culture teaching and learning in the foreign language education. In this part, some basic concepts are introduced and defined, and their relationship is also discussed. And then the author makes it clear that the goal of the language and culture teaching and learning is developing the students’ intercultural communication competence. On the basis of that, the author discussed the feasibility, advantage and disadvantage of using movies as a teaching and learning resource. At last the author presents three effects. That is: Real authentic language helps improve a learner’s comprehensive language proficiency; Authentic language communication scenes helps to develop a learner’s awareness of context; Authentic English culture will help improve the appropriateness of a learner’ output.
