A study of Cultural Differences in Chinese and American Family Education Based on Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother

Abstract

This thesis compared Chinese family education with American's from the angle of cross-cultural. Family education is one of the important parts of education, and it takes great effect not only on personal growth but also the development of entire society. Amy Chua is a Chinese American professor in Yale Law School. Her novel Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother (2011) draws much attention after its publication. The focus of these heated debates centers on the education culture difference, which has been highlighted for a long time .Influenced by all kinds of society factors such as politics, economy, cultural, family education of different country presents different character. This thesis wants to carry out a comparative study about family education between China and America in the novel, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. The two different cultures reflect the difference of the people's life styles. This thesis endeavors to analyze the cultural differences and their rooted causes in Chinese and American family education from the characters and current situation
