Abstract
The article is originated from "How to Fix IBM" of "Forbes Forum" published in October 23, 2014, written by the famous technological columnist Robert Robert X. Cringely, who is known as Silicon Valley seers.
This article belongs to science and technology of which its significant feature is the use of terminology, such as the use of professional terminology of the IT industry in this article. Because the text includes the management of IBM, business terms is also frequently used. Besides, for it is a column writing, the author reserves his own writing characteristics; sometimes it is colloquial. With a delicate combination of long and short sentences, a not such complex clause structure, it reads smoothly.
This paper is translation practice in place of thesis. The purpose of translating this text is to get to know the characteristics of this type of texts, learn to adapt the right schemes to translating and thus develop translating skills in general. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part is an introduction to the source text and language properties of the original text. In the second part and last part, the translator discusses, with specific examples from the texts, about the general translating principles that are used, in addition to some remarks about the problems encountered and the corresponding solutions adopted in this translating practice.
