Abstract
Based on the famous novel Walden written by the celebrated novelist Henry David Thoreau in the 19th century, the paper studies the embodiment of transcendentalism in Walden. First, the paper introduces the main characteristics of transcendentalism, namely Over-soul, Individualism and Concept of nature. Then the paper mainly analyzes the Over-soul and Individualism reflected in the simplicity and self-sufficiency of Thoreau’s solitary life upon Walden Pond. In addition, the paper analyzes the Concept of nature reflected in the vividly depiction of natural surroundings around Thoreau’s house and the beautiful scenery of Walden Pond. At last, the paper draws a conclusion that Walden profoundlyreflects the main characteristics of transcendentalism. At the same time, this paper aims at helping readers to better understand and appreciate the transcendentalism reflected in Walden.
