Abstract
Emily Bronte is an outstanding novelist and poet in 19th century British literature. Her novel Wuthering Heights is famous for its superb workmanship and is highly praised, by critics and common readers. Wuthering Heights is Emily’s only novel in her whole life. The love story of Wuthering Heights is about love and hate between Catherine and Heathcliff. The burning and betrayal love lead to Heathcliff’s cruel revenge on the people who make him suffers pains. Heathcliff’s revenge even visits upon the next generation.The purpose of the essay is to give a new view to recognize the course of love and the root reasons of the hate. The introduction will consist of Emily’s life and character, and tragic love in Wuthering Heights. The second part will talk about two kinds of love; the love between Healthcliff and Catherine, the love between Hareton and Cathy. The third part will present two kinds of hate; the hate between Healthcliff and Catherine, the hate between Healthcliff and Catherine’ Brother. The forth part will analyze the reasons which make revenge. The reason will include love, the social estate system, selfishness in human nature. The last part will make a conclusion to the essay.
