Abstract
College English is a very important course that is concerned with many people’s career path. However, most students might feel the most disappointed by this course. They are asked to remember a huge vocabulary and a lot of grammar knowledge, but they are still afraid of speaking English. Employers expect to recruit graduates with the certificate of CET-4 or CET-6, but most students are poor at English language skills in the practical work. Many high schools offer the English public course, which not only fails to improve students’ English language skills but seriously wastes the previous education resources. These problems reveal that the college English education in China hasn’t caught up the pace of talent development. The author analyzed the existing issues by looking into the English education in our college and offered some opinions about strengthening college English practical teaching. It is expected that the college English education could become more practical and effective so as to cultivate more applicable talents for society and corporate and meet the demand of rapid economic growth in China.
