Abstract
China, with her magnificent landscapes, precious historic relics and splendid culture, has always been a mysterious and attractive existence in the eyes of most foreigners. With the increasingly frequent international exchanges, nowadays tourism has become one of the sunrise industries in China. Therefore, the translation quality of scenic attraction introduction deserves constant attention and should be treated seriously. However, numerous mistakes and translation errors still exist in the translation of scenic attraction introduction, which could hinder foreign visitors’ understanding and even undermine China’s national image. This text points out that both language and culture are intrinsically bound together. To understand a culture, one must do so by means of its language, and so as to comprehend the meanings of the words, a person must look to the culture. The most serious mistakes in translating and interpreting are usually not the result of verbal inadequacy, but of wrong cultural assumptions. Through the tentative investigation, it is hoped that some mistranslations will be avoided in the further translation process to improve the cross-cultural communications.
