Abstract
With the reform of College English education goes on, the status of the students in the whole teaching becomes more and more important, while the teaching eva luation focuses on the students' comprehensive ability and the teaching process pays more attention to the students' practical ability. In this environment, schools focus on training students’ ability to use English as a communication tool, namely communicative competence, taking English communication as the teaching goal, and the content and purpose on communication as the core, to cultivate students' English communicative competence through communicative activities, which is the essence of the communicative approach. This approach not only adapts to the learning characteristics of contemporary college students, but also brings students the leading role in the teaching activities. This paper also illustrates the application and the importance of communicative approach in College English teaching.
