Abstract
The effect of second language acquisition is not ideal for Chinese learners due to many differences between Chinese and English such as cultural backgrounds, customs, living habits and so on. Since the mother tongue of Chinese learners is Chinese, they will be by some factors in mother tongue in the process of learning English which is called transfer of mother tongue. Negative transfer of mother tongue is commonly seen in the process of students’ learning of target language in junior middle school, and it increases the difficulty of target language learning in many aspects. This paper mainly discusses the influence of Chinese negative transfer on English learning and the strategies to avoid negative transfer of mother tongue in the process of students’ English learning from the aspects of pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and culture. The purpose is to maximize the influence of positive transfer of mother tongue, and reduce the influence of negative transfer of mother tongue in order to promote students’ English learning and improve the teaching effect in junior middle school at the same time.
This paper mainly makes an analysis of the influence of negative transfer of mother tongue on students’ English learning in junior middle school. The first part of this paper is a brief introduction; the second part is an overview of negative transfer of mother tongue including definition and its features; the third part is the impact of negative transfer of mother tongue on students’ English learning including reasons and the specific reflection in students’ English learning in junior middle school; and at last it proposes some strategies to avoid negative transfer of mother tongue in students’ English learning in junior middle school as well as gives a conclusion.
