Abstract
Under the trend of globalization, people with various cultural backgrounds meet great chanllenge while having effective communication. As for having a nice English language command, people basicaly need to understand English culture, experience and understand the differences between the English culture and the native culture, hold linguistic competence and intercultural communicative competence.
China has experienced a set of English teaching reforms, but ended up with very disappointing results: students have great linguistic competence but with weak social cultural abilities, oral English abilities and intercultural competence.
Language communication, in some way, is culture communication, in order to have better ability of communicating, students have to know and understand enough culture knowledge. Based on the culture background, students can use it in daily English communication. This dissertation will analyze the problems in college oral English education, digest the subtle and deep reasons which cause the students weaknesses of intercultural communicative abilities, look back to the reforms of language teaching methodology in order to collect positive and negative lessons in oral English language teaching.
