Abstract
This paper is about the contrastive study of Chinese and English abbreviation. The development of abbreviation is one reflection of the changing society. So, on the first part of this paper, causes of abbreviation shall be present, which is also one similarity of English and Chinese abbreviation. On the one hand, the development of abbreviation is related to people’s linguistic cognition ability.
