Abstract
This thesis probed into the study of the cultural dilemma in The Woman Warrior by applying the “third space” theory proposed by Homi Bhabha, one of the most well-known post-colonists. The Chinese American writer, Maxine Kingston, rewrote the traditional Chinese stories to such an extent that it catered to the satisfaction of the while readers, but begot the great displeasure of the Chinese people. Based on the text of The Woman Warrior, the thesis does not only provide an anlysis of the rewriting, but it also gives an explanation of the cultural dilemma of the Chinese American in the 1960s and 1970s. By creating the third space, the writer succeeds in breaking the dilemma and finally wins cultural identity for all of the Chinese Americans.
