Abstract
《Jane Eyre》 is a representative works of Charlotte Bronte, a very famous British writer in the 19th century. The novel tells a story about a family teacher who comes from a humble family and looks very ordinary, who dares to challenge the Victorian view of women and family through self-reliance and tenacious will to achieve women's self-development. Since its inception, many commentators have interpreted it from different perspectives, such as feminism, psychoanalysis, archetypal criticism, structuralism and colonialism.
This paper would like to analyses Jane Eyre's view of love and marriage attitude in Jane Eyre, and points out that although Jane Eyre is an orphan girl from the middle class, Jane Eyre’s special sense of love and marriage is ahead of Victoria's view of love and marriage. She always pursues true love, emphasizes gender equality in marriage, women are economically independent, self-respect and self love, so she refuses to enter into a pure spiritual love marriage with John Jane, and finally she gets married to Rochester. Jane Eyre's attitude of marriage and love reflects that Victorian women began to wake up to their independent consciousness in the 19th century.
