Boyhood is directed by Richard Linklater, a famous American director, which reflects the growth of American teenagers. Family education is indispensable for human growth. The growth process of the protagonist of the film reflects many values of American family education. From the perspective of cultural values, this paper analyzes the American family education concept embodied in the youth era, in order to deepen people's understanding of the American family education concept, reflect on the differences between Chinese and American family education values, and promote the healthy growth of children. We trace the evolution of Mason from the age of 6 to the age of 18, and the changes of American society and Mason's family in these 12 years. The audience can appreciate the trace of time passing and learn about the essence of American culture from the film. The whole film seems plain, but the trivial things in daily life touch the audience's heart. The success of the film is not only based on its unique shooting process and Mason's personal growth story, but also his unique perspective which is reflecting the changes of American society as well as the troubles in American life. Mason's growth is not only a story of his own growth, it vividly depicts the current situation of American society and represents the aspirations of thousands of Americans.
