Abstract
A Game of Thrones is the first of a 7-volume novel series in A Song of Ice and Fire. As a genuine masterpiece of modern fantasy wrote by George RR Martin, this series comprises present readers an unexpected world, including mystery, intrigue, magic, dragon and romance fill in these pages. Eddard Stark from House Stark is the point of view in A Game of Thrones. In this story he is described as an honorable man who insisting on doing thing rightfully during political struggle.
This paper mainly analyzes why Eddard Stark received a tragic ending. In this novel, the death of former king’s hand is a fuse to the whole story, when Eddard decided to take the Hand of the King is a beginning which lead him to his tragedy. Because the truth about the former king’s hand’s death is relating with another secret of House Lannister that Cersei Lannister and Jaime Lannister are having an affair, and they already had three children. This discovery could be very embarrassing for the king. Basing on this discovery, the conflict between two great clans activated. Tragically, Eddard’s disposition made him committed a lot of mistakes, Petyr Baelisn based on his individual benefits turned to against Eddard. After all, he had no choice but losing the game.
