Abstract
In the past quarter century, English education in China has been given more and more attention. This paper present the basic English education in China's education system. And there are two main purposes: (1) to clarify the significance of practical education methods in the process of English teaching, (2) to investigate the progress of basic English education in China and problems in the process.
This paper consists of three parts. The first part studies the basic English education policy in China since 1970s. The second part focuses on the policy effect to improve English teaching quality. The third part describe a few thorny issues in English practical teaching, progress has been made to improve, and it worth to be concerned by policy makers.
