摘 要
重叠是一种常见的语言现象,存在于世界上许多语言中，但就其表现形式而言,在不同的语言之间又存在着很大的差异。就英汉比较而言,汉语重叠类型多,表义丰富,充分体现了汉语的灵活多样性,是一种常见的修辞手段,体现语言的韵律美、意象美和表达美。在英语中或多或少的存在重叠现象,但远不如汉语那样普遍。究其原因,主要是因为汉语大多是单音节词，易于重叠，而英语大多是多音节词,不易重叠。文中首先就汉语和英语中重叠的形式，功能以及应用的范围进行了对比分析，其中讨论了它们的共性，但主要是着眼于它们之间的差异性。在对比分析的基础上探讨叠词的翻译，列举了用英语中的不同的形式进行翻译的十种方法。最后，针对叠词的功能意义在翻译中的丢失问题讨论了叠词的不可译性。

A Contrastive Study of Reduplication Between
Chinese and English and Its translation
ABSTRACT
Reduplication is a common language phenomenon, which exists in many a language. However, it varies a lot both in forms and functions from language to language. Compared with that in English, reduplication is used with a much higher frequency in Chinese, with a wider variety of forms and rhetorical effects, such as form beauty, sound beauty, and sense beauty. This is because Chinese words are monosyllabic and easy to duplicate, while English words are mostly multisyllabic words and difficult to duplicate. This paper first makes a contrastive study of reduplication between Chinese and English, including their forms, functions and scopes of application. While offering a brief discussion on their similarities, the author focuses on their dissimilarities. Then the author proceeds to investigate into the translation of reduplication, listing out ten different methods. At the end of it is a discussion of the loss or compensation for reduplication in translation, as well as its untranslability.
