摘 要
本文笔者首先给予英语谚语一个概括，包括定义，来源，然后从文化，翻译者两方面出发分别阐述举例。由于中英语言在文化，历史，风俗习惯，宗教信仰四方面的不同，导致了英语谚语翻译中出现的难点和问题。但是翻译的目的却清晰地指明了哪些该取，哪些该舍。本文试图找寻一种较好的翻译策略来解决目前英语谚语翻译中的问题。“异化为主，归化为辅”可能是一种比较好的选择。

ABSTRACT
The thesis first gives an overview on English proverbs, including its definition, history, then culture, and translation. However, differences between English and Chinese in cultures, history, customs and religious beliefs may cause difficulties in English proverbs translation. Then what should be preserved or altered should be determined by the aim of translation. The thesis trys to find a better strategy to solve the problem of proverbs translation. “Foreignization first, Domestication second.” Or “Foreignization over Domestication” may be better.
