ABSTRACT
This article aims to make a research on Chinglish in the English report of the 17th National Congress of CPC. Its original Chinese version usually has typical Chinese characteristics. The translations of such kind of political texts should be highly faithful to the original texts, and it is very hard to completely avoid Chinglish in translation. The reasons are as follows: First, it is difficult to find the equivalent words from English dictionary to translate some new expressions in Chinese; second, due to the requirement of strict faithfulness in political translation, Chinese sentences are apt to be translated mechanically; third, this kind of articles use many parallel structures or predicate phrases with abstract expressions, which make their translation loose and heavy reading. Therefore, the author will give some effective countermeasures to reduce or avoid Chinglish in the English report, such as cultivating the ability of English thinking, learning to distinguish the cultural differences between China and western countries, and having a precise understanding of the new expressions with Chinese characteristics. With these solutions, Chinese people can use more authentic English freely and help with our anticipated communication.
