The Understanding of Context Value in Relevance Theory
and Listening Comprehension of TEM-4
Abstract: This paper first gives a brief account of previous studies on the topic. Then it gives a general knowledge of relevance theory and extracts cognitive context from the perspective of relevance theory and elaborates it in terms of definition, characteristics and mode. It then discusses the relationship between cognitive context and listening comprehension and applies three aspects of function related to cognitive context to analyze the part of listening comprehension of TEM-4, namely linguistic information, psychological factor and encyclopedic information. It finally gives feasible suggestions for teaching of listening comprehension of English major.
