Abstract
Cross cultural communication refers to the communication between people with different cultural awareness and sign system. Cross-cultural communication involves three main factors: 1.Cognitive elements:cultural values, world view(religion), social organization(family and country). 2.Speech language. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, Language is the archives of history. 3.Nonverbal language, which contain body language(body movement, facial expressions, touch,and so on), concept of time, space usage. These three factors form the unique elements of culture, but cause the barriers in cross-cultural communication.
Language has a very important influence on cross cultural communication. Language is the carrier and reflection of culture, and culture is the soil of language. At the same time, the language itself has rich cultural connotation. Language can't exist without culture. In cross cultural communication, speech, semantic and lexical, syntactic and other factors, are important factors for the smooth communication. These factors have an important role in the development of English and Chinese cultural awareness, and further master the differences between English and Chinese, and the flexibility of dealing with cultural differences.
