Abstract
Novels contain the author’s understanding of the external world and his or her internal secrets. Similar to other literature forms, the novels have a specific theme and scatter the parts in different sessions of the novel. How to understand the theme is usually the topic for literature review. In the study of the great work Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte the author experiences are indicated between the lines and they help to build up the comprehensiveness of the theme. Wuthering Heights is the only work of Emily Bronte and focuses on the revenge of Heathcliff throughout the novel. This thesis, thus, probes the author experiences of Emily and discovers how these experiences are reflected in the novel as well as how they help to make up the theme of “hatred and love”, in order to enlighten more English majors in understanding the novels by learning about the author.
