Abstract
Festival is the concentration and essence of human daily life; and it reflects the most delicate, and the most representative part of national culture. Spring Festival and Christmas are two important festivals, and they both have representative features of Chinese and Western cultures. So they are the typical cases to explore Chinese and western festival cultures. Through the comparison of the differences between Spring Festival and Christmas, a detailed conclusion can be drawn of Chinese and western cultural differences caused by many aspects such as the origins, customs, social functions and cultural connotations in order to fin out the differences of values behind the cultural differences. They study of the differences helps to absorb the outstanding achievements of foreign culture in a better and more rational way. At the same time it can help to learn from the western positive values to protect and carry forward the cultural essence of Chinese nation.
