Abstract
Pride and Prejudice is the most popular and well-known work of Jane Austen, the famous realistic novelist of the late 18th and early 19th century. In the novel, Jane Austen describes the social life of the English landed gentry of that age and also shows her own view of marriage from the point of a number of young women in their late teens or early twenties. She holds a very realistic and healthy view on marriage: on the one hand, to marry with money, status or out of passion is not correct. Marriage should be based on mutual affection; on the other hand, marriages based on affection but without financial consideration is also improper. For money, is actually one of the main factors that decide whether a marriage is happy or not.
