Abstract
Language is a tool for people to communicate,and it’s also a symbol system of culture.Language and culture interact and restrict each other. As a special kind of culture, proverbs are accumulation of human wisdom handed down from generation to generation. Chinese proverbs and English proverbs, as the treasures of two different languages also show the differences between different cultures. So the different cultural between English and Chinese proverbs should be translated and applied accurately,and the understanding of each other’s culture should be strengthened. This paper analyzes roots of differences between the Chinese culture and Western cultural, and differences are demonstrated between Chinese and English proverbs from aspects of geography, history, religion and custom. Also I will talk about the comparison on culture value conception reflected from Chinese and English proverbs. It helps to promote cultural exchanges between East and West.
