Abstract
Idiom is a kind of cultural essence, is the language of the precipitation, we can also understand a nation's social culture to a certain extent by it. There is a self-evident thing in a culture, but in another culture. We should take great effort to explain it. American translation theorist Eugene A. Nida pointed out that “translation is the communication between the two cultures. For truly successful translation, it is more important to be familiar with two cultures than to master two languages. Since words only have meaning in terms of the cultures in which they function.”
Due to the cultural differences between English and Chinese. Idioms bear the differences of cultural features and cultural information, so the idioms and traditional culture are closely linked and inseparable. The cultural factors in idioms are the difficulties in the translation of idioms. So we must understand the cultural background and historical background of the two countries in English and Chinese, then we can have a better understanding to translate the things, the authors really want to express ideas expressed. In this paper, starting from the differences between Chinese culture and English culture, study in English and Chinese idioms cultural differences cause. At last, the paper discusses translation methods and skills.
