Abstract
I have been in the pharmaceutical enterprise and engaged in the API registration work at home and abroad for many years, based on the accumulation of working experience, set the Skopos theory as a guide to discuss and analyze English to Chinese translation strategies for API registration data.
The Skopos theory was brought up by German scholars in the 1970s, and it was thought that translation was a purposeful human activity. There are three main rules: (1) Skopos Rule;(2) Coherence Rule;(3) Fidelity Rule. Among them, Skopos is the first rule, the theory provides translators with flexible standard of translation, and the standard can be adjusted according to different requirements for translation purpose behavior, the translator also can increase or decrease the content, adjust the word order, paragraphs, chapters, etc. in order to better achieve the communicative purpose of translation.
The API registration data belongs to the category of scientific and technological texts, which focuses on the accuracy and standardization of information transmission. Therefore, the translation of such texts inevitably requires the translator to produce professional and appropriate translations according to Skopos Rule with the purpose of registration. This study by analyzing relevant data of API in the aspect of vocabulary, syntax and text, combining with the typical translation examples which are met by author in the work, sums up the appropriate translation strategies respectively, and aims to provide some references for the translation of API registration data.
