Abstract
With the reform of language teaching method, many new teaching theories and teaching methods have appeared. The senior high school English education English teaching basic requirements puts forward English courses to develop students' cultural awareness. Teachers should pay attention to the cultural background knowledge teaching in the classroom, and creating English learning environment. For a long time, it was thought that any reader could understand an article well as long as he has mastered knowledge such as vocabulary and grammar. However, such reading effect is not always satisfactory, and also a tremendous challenge to reading teaching.
Cultural background plays an important role in the reading process. Understanding an article is an interactive process between the reader and the text. Any article, whether oral or written, it just provide instructions for the listeners or readers about how they should be according to their own previous knowledge to restore or constitute a means. There are many students who said that they can not understand English articles well. Obviously, the problem in the reading process is the lack of background knowledge.
One of the most important tasks for senior high school English teachers is to help students build more background knowledge. At the same time, the problems existing in reading are not only due to the lack of background knowledge, but also due to the improper use of the background knowledge. Another important task for English teachers is to activate students' existing background knowledge. Therefore, in English curriculum, the use of background knowledge is to cultivate students' language comprehension ability.
This paper will explore the necessity of studying the cultural background knowledge of senior high school students through the analysis of problems and examples.
