Abstract
The constant development of economy and penetration of foreign culture help us get mass information in a short time. In recent years, the channels for cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries are increasingly diversified. Particularly, television and film culture exchange become so frequent that such works has been an important channel to expand our vision. More and more American dramas, English dramas, Hollywood blockbusters and other western media enter into our life, which is closely followed by subtitle translation. With English drama Sherlock Holmes and American drama Person of Interest as examples, based on historic differences in subtitle translation and differences in humorous language characteristics, the thesis explores cultural factors and translation strategies of subtitle translation in television and film works from audience-centered characteristic, artistry of language, handling of cultural information and flop-out method.
