Abstract
Language is a cultural carrier. Cultural vocabulary plays an important role in a language. Different social backgrounds and national cultures have great effects on the cultural connotation of vocabulary. Among the many kinds of languages, there are extremely luxuriant animal vocabularies with cultural connotations in English and Chinese. However, two nations do not treat all the animal words in the same way due to their different histories, customs, habits and different mode of thinking. With the long time transition of history, animal words not only have many same or similar cultural connotations, but also many difference as well. When we meet animal words at our cultural communication, we should understand relevant cultural connotation so that we can use applicable translation skills to deal with problems.
