对商业信件的研究引起应用语言学家的广泛兴趣，尤其是在双语教学领域。然而，大多数学者的研究目的是引导人们写一封看上去像英美国家人士写的英文简历，鲜有学者调查招聘者对简历的要求。以往的大多数研究语料来源复杂，少有学者对简历进行商业背景下的个案分析。
论文分析旨在研究中国求职者如何利用语步来实现交际目和中国招聘者喜欢具有什么语步的简历。本研究对所收到简历，对其进行语步分析，发现其语步和策略特点，在语步分析的基础上，设计调查问卷，调查招聘者喜欢具有什么语步的简历。本研究对二语写作及求职者都具有实践指导意义，即在进行写作时，必须分析不同言语社区之间的文化差异，了解不同言语社区对同一语篇的不同要求。
