Abstract in English
This research is oriented to the generalization of the principles for C-to-E translation of textual tourist materials and in an attempt to offer some suggestions to the improvement of Wuzhen’s tourism publicizing work related to textual translation in English. The translation of textual tourist materials is a unique form of translation. Unlike the translation of diplomatic, political or legal documents which requires stringent conformation to the original means of the wording, the translation of textual tourist materials can exercise much flexibility, including the addition of short descriptions of the history and culture of the tourist sites so as to provide the potential tourists with adequate knowledge to make decisions on whether or not to visit the place. Such adjustments are not only allowed but also necessary, for the primary purpose of the textual tourist materials is to provide the foreign tourist with knowledge for the first place and to entice him / her for a visit. This dissertation uses Wuzhen as a good case study to demonstrate the usefulness of the Aesthetics of Reception Theory in the translation of C-to-E textual tourist materials.
