The Design of a Task-based Oral Coursebook Relating to Local Context
Abstract: This course design explores to compile an oral coursebook by using Task-based learning approach, which presently prevails worldwide and with the local context of Shenzhen. The coursebook Speaking English in Shenzhen is tailored for people who work and live in Shenzhen with senior middle school or college education background, but have the urgent need to improve their oral English for different purposes.
The theme of Chapter 3 is Shopping. The author selects listening and reading materials about shopping in Shenzhen. Derived from sufficient interesting and informative materials, a variety of related topics are introduced from clearly defined situational to meet the learners’ various personal and academic needs. The author designs tasks such as discussing to decide a best shopping route in Shenzhen, exchanging commodities, and exchanging opinions about where best to shop in Shenzhen. In theses activities, which may lead to learner’s higher interest and motivation, learners can promote their skills of using the English and acquire English naturally in the process of completing these various tasks.

摘 要 该口语教材《深圳人讲英语》是以深圳本土为背景,运用当前国际上最新倡导的“任务型学习”方法而设计和编写的,旨在能够更有效地帮助具有中等水平英语基础的在深圳生活和工作的人士提高口语能力的使用的特色教材。
第三章的主题是购物,作者选取了以深圳购物为背景的相关听力和阅读材料。本章涉及各种各样的话题以期给学习者多样化的信息,这些话题来源于丰富有趣的翔实材料,是从明确界定的情景,个人和学术需要出发的。作者设计了如讨论决定在深圳购物的最佳路线,退换物品,和交换关于深圳最好的购物地方的信息等任务。这些活动能引发学习者极大的学习兴趣和动机,通过用英语去解决他们在深圳购物所需解决的问题的任务,使他们增长知识,习得语言,从而提高运用英语的口语能力。
