CULTURAL CONNOTATION AND TRANSLATION OF ENGLISH FLORAL TERMS
Abstract: English floral terms are an important part of the English language, which is hard to translate because of its unique cultural sources and connotations. In this thesis, six cultural sources of the connotations of English floral terms are traced: geographical environment, myth, religion, literary works, social custom and analogy, on the basis of which, and of the comparison of the connotation of English floral terms with that of Chinese, five translation methods are discussed in the perspectives of culture and translation purpose: literal translation, Literal translation with added notes, literal translation followed by the connotation, liberal translation, liberal translation——replacement with a Chinese equivalent.

对英语植物术语内涵的探讨与翻译
摘 要:英语植物词语是英语语言很重要的一部分。很多英语植物词语具有浓厚的文化涵义, 这些文化涵义具有不同的文化渊源。给翻译带来很大的挑战性。本文讨论了英语植物词语的文化涵义的六种文化渊源, 即:地理环境,神话,宗教,文学作品,社会习俗及相似性。在此基础上,通过比较英语中植物词语的喻义在汉语中的表达形式,从文化翻译目的论的角度探讨了五种翻译方法:直译,直译加注,直译喻义相结合,省略植物意象的意译和 改换植物意象的套译。
