摘 要
本文首先通过查阅资料，了解称呼语的国内外研究历史现状；然后将称呼语大致分为两类，亲属称呼语和社交称呼语，接着从语用和语义上进行称呼语的中英比较，根据这些差异，揭示中西文化在社会体制，家庭模式，等级制度以及社会价值取向上的差异；最后本文总结指出了称呼语的研究意义，即使用正确的称呼语减少中西交流障碍，提高英语学习者的语言学习和交际能力。

ABSTRACT
This paper first explores the previous researches at home and abroad. It then elaborates the comparative study on kinship terms and social terms from semantic and pragmatic perspectives, which show great differences between Chinese and western cultures in social system, family structure, hierarchy system and values. It finally discusses the significance of the study, that is, promoting the communication between China and English speaking countries and improving the learning and communicative skills of English learners.
