On The Techniques of Consecutive Interpretation
Abstract
With the in-depth development of China’s reform and opening-up and its entry to WTO, there have been more and more foreign activities in our life. On these occasions, English is an indispensable tool as an international language. It is of vital importance to keep the channel of foreign activities smooth if you can master it and serve as an interpreter between the English and the Chinese. As a matter of fact, interpretation is playing an important role in bridging different cultures and linking the outside world, especially consecutive interpretation, one type of interpretation, proves how it stands. Actually, there are many important techniques of consecutive interpretation that can be applied in our work to ensure a successful interpretation. For example, active listening, key words note-taking, link discovering, short-time memory, sentence varying skills, cross-cultural comparison and contrast, and responding tactics for the on-the-spot interpretation, each of them can become an effective means in our interpreting job. This thesis aims at learning to deal with the different occasions when an interpretation is undertaken and really understanding what the consecutive interpretation is.
