摘要
“雌雄同体”原指自然界某些动物或植物自身兼具雌雄两性。弗吉尼亚•伍尔夫最早把“雌雄同体”这一概念引进了文学批评和创作。其精神实质是两性平等、和睦。本文从“雌雄同体”角度切入着重分析了哈代小说《还乡》中女主人公游苔莎身上的雌雄两性特征，阐述了她在人类生存的困境中进行自我救赎。通过分析其性意识与自主意识的觉醒，本文对游苔莎自我意识的实现做出了追问和探讨，并归结其最终走向悲剧结局的原因。本文并没有停留在悲剧分析上，而是进一步思考女性的生存状态，从雌雄同体角度，探寻女性自我意识的实现和两性和谐之路。

ABSTRACT
Hermaphroditism refers to the nature of original animal or plant, which has both male and female genders. Virginia Woolf is the first person to introduce the concept of “hermaphroditism” into literary criticism and creation. Its essence is equality and harmony. This thesis analyzes the double characters of Eustacia in Return of the Native from the perspective of Hermaphroditism and illustrates her self-redemption in the plight of human existence. By analyzing the awakening of sex-awareness and self-consciousness, the thesis tries to question the realization of self-awareness of Eustacia and analyzes the reasons for her tragedy. However, this thesis does not rest on the analysis on tragedy but goes further to think of the present women survival state and explore the way to achieve self-realization and gender harmony from the perspective of hermaphroditism.
