Abstract
News headline is a condensed form and a miniature of the news story. Many readers grab the gist of news reports by scanning the headlines, which proves headline is an effective delivery of abundant information within very few words. To realize this point, the editing and composing of headlines deviate and depart from other normal forms of writing, which endow headlines with distinctive stylistic features. Since many scholars at home and abroad have made researches on news headlines and headlinese, the language adopted in headline composition is worth analyzing. Therefore, this paper chooses and analyzes examples in USA Today.
