Abstract
Proverbs are the essence of a language. They reflect the cultural background of the related nations. As English is the main language of western countries, English proverbs naturally reflect western culture in many aspects. In this paper, the author tries to guide people, especially English learners to concern the relations of English proverbs and western culture. He analyses some aspects of western culture that can be cited from related English proverbs, such as natural environment, human activities, religion and morality. It will make both learning English and western culture interesting and easier.
