Abstract
“Wuthering heights” was a magnum opus of Emily reflected the strong emotion of the author and criticized the reality at that time. And also the characteristics of the protagonists were the reason too. Reading “Wuthering heights” allows people to understand the social conditions of the time and the ideas expressed by the author and to understand the contradictions that exist in the society at that time and the oppression of the spirit of people.Emily suffered so much from the poverty and helplessness in material world and the loneliness in spiritual world so that she used the tragic love to express the strong dissatisfaction with the social reality. “Wuthering heights” is the catharsis of the thought and emotion of author and it is the embodiment of the author inner world, and it also embodies the author's outstanding artistic talent.In the paper "Wuthering heights" was introduced firstly and then the literature review at home and abroad was studied and the reasons for the tragic love was analyzed later from aspects of social conditions and cultural conditions and historical conditions and the characteristics of Heathcliff and Catherine.
