Abstract
Jane Austen is a famous British writer in the nineteenth century. Her works are based on the theme of love and marriage. She displays the features of the 19th century with meticulous observation and lively humorous words. This article mainly analyzes the status of women in society at that time through the analysis of their masterpiece Pride and Prejudice. First, analyze the plight of women in terms of economic and social status. Second, compare traditional women with modern women' s awareness and study women' s changes in marriage. Finally, I sum up the views of British society and the author's views on women' s social status. In a word, this paper points out the dilemmas in the marriage appeals of different women in Pride and Prejudice, and the female consciousness of Jane Austen, and then summarizes the predicaments and causes of British women in social life in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and so as to provide life direction for the development of women.
