Abstract
Oscar Wilde is a representative of the Aesthetic Movement. Aesthetic ideology from the literary perspective is embodied in many of his works. Respectively in the aspects of rhetoric and imagery, this paper analyzed the embodiment of aesthetic ideology in Oscar Wilde’s The Nightingale and the Rose. Firstly, in the aspect of rhetoric, the paper introduces the writing methods of using repetition, personification and contrast to construct magnificent beauty on the literal level. Secondly, in the aspect of imagery, the paper analyzes all the characters’ symbolic meanings in the story conveyed by the writer with the technique of imagery. Thirdly the aim of this paper is to find out the aesthetic ideology from the perspective of literature in this fairy tale. Lastly the paper is of learning significance to students as well as significance to readers’ understanding of Oscar Wilde and his works.
